1. Question: Why should I recruit members for the IPMA?

Of course, there is the recognition and valuable prizes being offered to recruiters as a part of this campaign, but more than that, you should recruit at least one new IPMA member to strengthen the profession. The more members the IPMA has, the louder our voice becomes on legal assistant management related issues, the greater our ability to influence federal and state legislation including exempt/non-exempt status and educational standards. In addition, the IPMA is your professional organization and the dues brought in by an increase in membership will give the IPMA the broad financing needed to continue and expand the valuable professional education, tools, and programs that it provides its members. By bringing in new members, you help to build a bigger, better, stronger organization for yourself.

2. Question: How long does the Member Get a Member campaign last?

The current Member Get a Member campaign will last through September 15, 2006 with prizes to be awarded in November 2005. However, your efforts to recruit new members to the IPMA should not end with this campaign. As members who care about their professional organization and the value it provides, you should always be looking for others to share in the benefits of an IPMA membership. Along with the wonderful work you do, recruiting new members is yet another way that you can help to strengthen legal assistant management.

3. Question: How do I receive credit for recruiting a member?

On the IPMA membership application forms there is a space provided for the recruiter to fill their name, also, there is a data entry point on the online form. Ideally, you will provide the prospective member you are recruiting with an application on which you have already written your recruiter information. When the application is received and processed by the IPMA membership office staff a link between your record and the record of your recruit will be established. These links will be used to track all the members you have recruited during the campaign. If the prospective member you are recruiting is not getting their application directly from you, please ask them to fill in your information in the "recruited by" section of the application. Membership application forms can be filled out directly on the website or filled out in PDF and sent in.

5. Question: Does a recruit have to be new to the IPMA or do former members count too?

Former members or new to the IPMA, it doesn't matter. Any non-member will be counted as a recruit so long as the "recruited by" section of the application is filled in with the recruiter's name, city, and state.

6. Question: Can two or more members get partial credit for recruiting a new member?

No, each new member can only have one recruiter credited. Should an application be received with more than one person listed in the "recruited by" section, only the first person named will receive credit.

8. Question: How can I find out if someone I've recruited has joined the IPMA?

First, follow up with your recruit. Just like any successful salesperson, a successful recruiter will follow up with their recruits to make sure that the application has been sent in. The latest campaign updates will be published monthly in the IPMA at A Glance electronic newsletter.

9. Question: When will prizes for the Member Get a Member campaign be awarded?

The grand prize drawing, as well as the awarding of American Express gift certificates to the recruiters, will take place at the 2006 Annual Conference & Expo in Denver, Colorado. However, recognition of recruiters may begin sooner in IPMA at a Glance. As soon as we begin receiving applications with recruiter information included, we will recognize those recruiters in the next issue of IPMA at a Glance to go to print.
